We build residential and commercial furniture using salvaged wood from urban trees. Besides utilizing materials that would otherwise go to waste, the urban trees we use are typically older and larger than their farmed cousins and grow in more interesting ways in the open than they do in the forest. They develop unique shapes and curves and unusually beautiful patterns, or “figure,” as well as other markings that tell the history of the tree. We cut slabs from trees which can be up to five feet in width, allowing us to create single board tabletops. Most of our wood is from hardwood trees found in and around Seattle, with walnut, madrone, elm and maple being the most popular.

Our customers include interior designers, business/restaurant owners and individual home owners. We build tables, benches, desks, mantels and countertops in unique shapes and sizes, with straight edges or “live” edges—whatever our collective imagination can envision. We welcome the opportunity to find new uses and inspiration for our exquisite wood.

We have finished pieces on display and for purchase in our showroom.  You can also hand-select wood from our large inventory of hardwood slabs to use in a piece we will create for you.  Please call for showroom hours or to schedule an appointment.

When I first traveled to Bali nearly two decades ago, there were only about three telephones and one fax machine on the island. Much of life was lived at walking pace. That trip inspired language studies, extended stays in Bali and Java and enduring friendships across Southeast Asia. Along the way, my passion for antiques and handcrafted products evolved into what you see here. David Smith & Co. became a way for me to experience the wider world. Now I share the journey with you. Through the diverse voices that are David Smith & Co., we braid together the best of our culture with the skills and traditions of Southeast Asia. Today, we employ more than 100 people here and in Southeast Asia to bring you products that create nurturing spaces. As we continue to explore the best sources for items to offer directly to you, our customer, we expand what has become a global conversation. David Smith & Co. is proud to have created a partnership that begins with our artisans and extends to you. Respect among our craftsmen and staff stands behind our commitment to all of our customers.
